![]() Maybe it comes from living in a place with big skies and big land that stretches beyond the imagination, but creating a big painting seems like the thing to do. I am drawn to it like a moth to flame. There is a thrill (and some physicality) in laying down paint with arm sweeping motions and stepping back to the far end of the room to view your progress. Come to think of it, I can consider painting a large canvas like a Crossfit workout ... an Artfit workout!! Yeah! Brilliant! While working large can present some large problems, it also provides an opportunity to add in some complexity that would be lost in a small painting. Scumbling and glazing are great fun and can yield interesting passages. Using big brushes keeps my focus on the big picture and away from working small areas to their demise. I'm not saying that this is for everyone, the folks who paint on a grain of rice may find it a bit challenging, but it can certainly knock a few cobwebs loose and tone up those arms. We all need to change it up from time to time in order to keep the creative juices flowing. So, think big! and work it out! You never know what new ideas it will foster. Now go play! |
