Are we (as a general population) becoming addicted to the grab n go pace that is so pervasive in our society these days? Our youngsters(as well as many oldsters) seem to have their noses buried in technology wherever they go, where an answer to any question is only a click away. We want faster downloads, faster service, faster gratification.
But, we know that it wasn't the rabbit that won the race! As an artist, I still believe in paper and pencil planning, observation, and thoughtful reflection as preparation for approaching a project. This is not unique to artists - it really applies to any discipline. It even applies to chewing your food! "Be present in the moment"...connect on a personal level. It will show in your work ... it will be felt in your work. As our world becomes more fast paced and global, the lines of cultural diversity become blurred. We are left searching for unique and distinct. Artists are an important link to continuing cultural craft and knowledge, a continuing representation of regions and cultures. Support your local arts. |
